Day 2 of Oklahoma teacher protest

The comments also expressed frustration after she signed a a bill that gave teachers and support staff in the state a salary increase of between 15 and 18 percent

She said it is important to represent her school district, and others, and to show support for current, retired and future generations of teachers. But some educators - who haven't seen a pay increase in 10 years - say that isn't good enough and walked out.

Protesters chanted "Stop the war on public education" and some, angry at lawmakers who supported the overhaul, yelled "Vote them out", while others held signs that read "We've Had Enough" and "A Pension is a Promise".

"If I didn't have a second job, I'd be on food stamps", said Rae Lovelace, a single mom and a third-grade teacher at Leedey Public Schools in northwest Oklahoma.

In an interview with CBS News, Fallin says, "teachers want more, but it's kind of like having a teenage kid that wants a better vehicle". Teachers in Arizona are now considering a strike over their demands for a 20 percent salary increase. "Some people view that as being greedy or unthankful [for the raise], but it's more than a teacher raise we are looking for, it's funding for our classrooms".

Oklahoma City Public Schools announced that schools will remain shut on Wednesday as protests and negotiations with legislators carry on. With the kids out of school, different options on where they can go while parents are at work have been popping up.

Funding for Oklahoma schools has been cut by almost $200 million over the past decade, but it's unclear if lawmakers will restore any of that money this year.

He expressed the hope that Russian Federation and the United States could return to "constructive and serious dialogue". Trump and other officials will take turns reading books and a station for kids to make greeting cards for USA troops.

Budget negotiators unveiled a spending plan Monday that includes increased spending for the main funding formula for K-12 schools and restored money for school buses that the state's Republican governor had proposed eliminating.

Some Oklahoma school districts say they will close for a fourth day in anticipation of a continued walkout by teachers demanding more funding for classrooms.

While many educators are preparing for a fourth day at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Thursday, they will be joined by faith leaders.

On Tuesday, the capitol was once again filled with thousands of teachers, some of whom took a sick day or a personal day to be there, because their districts hadn't officially closed down.

National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen Garcia spoke to thousands during the rally in Oklahoma, saying lawmakers need to do more. Teachers have not said when the walkout will end. The teachers asked West what it would take to get more education funding immediately. Student speakers described tattered textbooks, malfunctioning computers and broken classroom furnishings and urged lawmakers to increase spending on their education.

The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy (KCEP) report on the budget deal reveals a whole series of broadsides against public education including a 6.25 percent cut to a number of programs including preschool and extended school services.

They trail leaders Barcelona by 13 points in the league and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Leganes. But the former French World Cup victor added: "I would have liked to avoid Juventus , for lots of reasons".

Teachers in Kentucky also protested Monday over changes to their pension plans.

It began as a teachers' walkout. In an interview with CBS Evening News, she accused teachers of being greedy and said the protests were backed by anti-fascist "antifa" groups. Republican Gov. Doug Ducey has said he is sticking to a 1 percent increase. These cuts have resulted in teachers working for low pay with outdated textbooks in overcrowded classrooms.

Marchers plan to hike about six hours to Kellyville High School about 18 miles (30 kilometers) away. Oklahoma's public education budget has been slashed more than any other state since the start of the recession in 2008, and its teachers are among the lowest paid in the nation.

Several marches and demonstrations are happening across the state today in support of the teacher walkout. West pointed out that education wasn't the only sector that had undergone punishing state cuts.

Public education unions are traditionally a bastion of the Democratic party.

"We get why our teachers are over there", (Harding Charter Prep baseball player Jaxon) Casteel said, motioning to the Capitol dome as more helicopters buzzed overhead.

Then 12, the boy held a sign reading "free hugs", as he tearfully hugged a police officer. "They transformed these kids' lives". The most recent call to Child Protective Services happened on March 23 just prior to the Hart's vacation and the fatal crash.
