Myanmar 'building military bases on Rohingya villages'

Myanmar is allegedly building military bases on the top of razed Rohingya villages, where the Rohingyas once lived before their persecution by the country's security forces in August a year ago.

After destroying Rahonigya villages in the Rakhine state with the bulldozers Myanmar has started building security installations on the land, Amnesty International said.

"The bulldosing of entire villages is incredibly worrying".

Amnesty International also said that the building activity raises serious concerns that authorities are destroying evidence of crimes against the Rohingya, making it impossible to conduct investigations and hold accountable those who perpetrated the atrocities.

Tirana Hassan, Amnesty's crisis response director, said, "The remaking of Rakhine State (in Myanmar) is taking place in a shroud of secrecy". New bases are being erected...

But Thowfeek said the surfeit of Democratic candidates was ultimately good for the party, driving turnout still higher. But with the GOP's majority in Congress on the line this fall, Democrats in Texas barreled out of the gates to vote.

The military killed women, men, and children, committed rape and other forms of sexual violence against women and girls and systematically burned hundreds of villages, clearly committing crimes against humanity.

New satellite images show how Myanmar's military is allegedly planning to ensure Rohingya refugees who fled to Bangladesh do not return to Rakhine state.

The repatriation plan, postponed at moment, fits into a three-step roadmap raised by China, Myanmar's largest trading partner and Bangladésh.

"Rohingya who fled death and destruction at the hands of the security forces are unlikely to find the prospect of living in close proximity to those same forces conducive to a safe return", the group said, "especially given the continuing lack of accountability for human rights violations".

Nearly 700,000 people have fled northern Rakhine State to Bangladesh in the last six months following a wave violence which the United Nations has called ethnic cleansing.

Lamonte Turn rounds out the trio of Volunteers scoring double digits per game, as he is scoring 10.7 per game. Bone was 7-of-7 from the floor for 17 points in the period. "It's just a sense of maturity", Bone said.

Amnesty International's analysis of satellite imagery has confirmed that at least three new security bases are being built in northern Rakhine State - two in Maungdaw Township and one in Buthidaung Township.

The military crackdown in response to deadly attacks on police outposts by a militant Muslim group, the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, in August targeted Rohingya civilians in a campaign of killing, rape, and arson that drove almost 700,000 members of the despised minority group across the border to Bangladesh.

New roads and structures are being built over burned Rohingya villages and land.

Delivering her report to the Council in Geneva yesterday, Lee said that to date accountability for the crimes committed in Rakhine State following August 25 past year, and October 9, 2016, was elusive, adding that this must now be the focus of the global community's efforts to bring long-lasting peace, stability and democratisation to Myanmar.
