Sky reports flying half-year earnings and hikes dividend

Sky reported a five per cent rise in like-for-like revenue

Sky is waiting for United Kingdom approval to be bought by Fox, which in turn plans to sell the company to Walt Disney.

Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch told analysts after the company reported results on Thursday that Sky News was not as important as it was when Sky launched in 1989.

"In innovation, we are constantly improving our customers' experience and making it easier for them to take Sky". Working through the regulator's concerns about the Fox deal is a focus for Sky, Mr Darroch said on a call with reporters.

21st Century Fox has bid £11.4 billion for the 61 per cent of Sky it does not already own but in Britain concerns linger over the strengthening influence of Australian-born U.S. tycoon Murdoch.

The Obama administration lifted some restrictions on Kopassus that year, though training with US counterparts is still forbidden. Ryacudu said the United Nations should increase pressure on Pyongyang so the regime is compliant with worldwide law.

Should the deal fall through, a break fee of £200m will be paid to Sky.

Across Europe, Sky revenues were up five percent to £6.7 million as customer numbers reached 22.9 million. Sky Q, a hybrid satellite and IPTV service, now has two million subscribers, while the Sky Mobile service added 131,000 customers in Q2, contributing to a total of 335,000.

In all, earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation - or "core" earnings - rose by 15%, to £1.2bn, which was slightly ahead of City expectations.

Sky plans to offer all its channels and content available online, meaning customers will no longer need a satellite dish on their property.

And they appear to be responding in kind both in the sheer number who have come forward to speak and in their words. Larry Nassar could face hundreds of years in prison when he is sentenced on sexual assault charges Wednesday.

The ultimate aim was for all countries to watch Sky programming through a single over-the-top (OTT) internet service, he added.

In its half-year results, the pay-TV and broadband business said it will launch Sky without a satellite dish and stream all its channels and on-demand content over IP. First half United Kingdom and Ireland revenue grew 4% to GBP4.44 billion; Germany and Austria revenue was up 8% at GBP1.02 billion; and revenue in Italy was up 4% at GBP1.28 billion.

"Despite households in all our territories facing continued pressure on discretionary spending, our customers and prospective customers value their on-screen entertainment highly", said Sky, which counts live Premier League football, blockbuster movies and 24-hour rolling news among its offering.

"It's a process that is predominantly led by 21st Century Fox and we will assist in that", he said.

Trans-Pacific deal agreed without US
The TPP is made up of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Maylasia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. Canada, the second-largest economy among the TPP partners, was widely considered the main holdout in the negotiations.

These new markets could see Sky bump heads with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
