Google promises Spectre fix that won't slow PCs

AMD headquarters

Spectre, meanwhile, requires more direct access to the microchip, but affects central processing units from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices Inc and SoftBank Group Corp's ARM.

In early December Intel began distributing firmware updates to try and stop the vulnerabilities.

"We are working quickly with these customers to understand, diagnose and address this reboot issue".

It is necessary to patch firmware as well, but that is only possible after Intel, AMD and other companies release updates to manufacturers.

Ohio State cashes in on USC turnovers in Cotton Bowl
So far, Ohio State and USC both appear to want to be at the Cotton Bowl , or at least the players have said all the right things. The award-winning defensive lineman really let it be known the job that he and the rest of a talented front were performing.

This kind of slowdown is assumed to be an unavoidable downside to patching Spectre and Meltdown, but today we're learning that it may not have to be that way. "We are also working directly with data center customers to discuss the issue".

The security issues known as Spectre and Meltdown were first announced by Google engineers on January 3.

Intel and AMD have been issuing updates through partners including Microsoft and hardware vendors. The flaws result from the way computers try to guess what users are likely to do next, a process called speculative execution. "That's not Intel's problem, but "install these patches and you'll be fine" is disingenuous". He said the company is committed to providing frequent progress reports on patch progress, performance data and other information via its Web site. In the announcement of the pledge, Krzanich promised to work with customers to find vulnerabilities, prioritize patches and be transparent about progress and potential performance issues and. Vulnerability to Variant 2 has not been demonstrated on AMD processors to date. Intel also has a page on its site with links and information about updates.

However, the Rosen Law Firm on Wednesday announced that it had filed a class action suit against Intel, alleging a failure to disclose the design flaw.

Fear not the alphabet soup of TV features being unveiled at CES
This is in comparison to the previously-used Harman Kardon audio technology that was seen on past TVs from LG in these lineups. GE's new product actually has two cameras, one that looks right at the stove and one for the video calls and pictures.

As the world's major tech giants issue patches and updates to the Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities, one thing has become incredibly clear: the tech industry wasn't entirely unprepared. Intel are insisting that the solutions won't impact on the performance of their computers.

So says Dutch security researcher Melvin Mughal, who carried out benchmarking tests before and after the security patch had been applied.

Now, however, Google is saying that not only did it know about the three specific Spectre and Meltdown CPU exploits, it worked to patch its own product line against a variant of Spectre that "was going to be much harder to mitigate".
