A single cigarette can trigger smoking addiction, says study

Researchers found that 69% of people who had ever tried a cigarette had gone on to become a daily smoker even if just temporarily

It shows around 50 to 82 percent people had gone for smoke on a daily basis or temporarily after trying a cigarette a day and when they combined the data, the percentage increased to 68.9%.

The team analysed data from the United Kingdom, the US, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.

The study's authors, from Queen Mary University of London, looked at eight surveys that had gathered information on 215,000 people from around the world.

Although it's unclear how long the smokers in the study took up the habit for, lead researcher Professor Peter Hajek, from Queen Mary University of London, said the new figures show how important it is to curb cigarette experimentation.

Xbox One adds do not disturb mode for distraction-free gaming
You'll get a quick look at the Achievements you are close to getting across all of your games and can even instantly launch them. Just over four years later and Microsoft is still adding features to the Xbox One that existed on its predecessor, the Xbox 360.

This is the first time a link between trying cigarettes and establishing a smoking habit has been demonstrated with such a large data set, Hajek added.

Given the high conversion rate found in all existing surveys, the researchers suggest that at least some of the reduction in smoking prevalence observed over the past 20 years is likely due to reduced experimentation with cigarettes among adolescents.

Further, Hajek revealed that the United Kingdom witnessed a commendable reduction in smoking, and the recent findings confirm that.

The study authors said that this means cigarettes have a "remarkable hold" even after just one experience, and added that this confirmed the importance of stopping people from experimenting with tobacco products.

Teacher questioning administrative pay raises removed from board meeting in handcuffs
On Tuesday morning, Hargrave's Facebook page was filled with supportive comments, some thanking her for taking a stand. It's unclear if the deputy marshal was acting on his own accord-of if he was called on to have Hargrave removed.

If you have a circle of friends and anyone around you who are daily smokers, then you might have thought to give it a try once for sure.

In the same period, 19.3% of 18- to 24-year-olds were smokers, compared with 25.8% in 2010.

Taking just one drag of a cigarette is enough to get you hooked, a study has found.

However, Deborah Arnott, chief executive of the charity Action on Smoking and Health stated that government now should come up with strict regulation om tobacco sales. "Yet the Government is refusing to introduce licencing for tobacco retailers, even though there is strong support for this both from the public and retailers". Since the different surveys used a range of methodologies, this estimated conversion rate was assigned a margin of error, meaning it could be as low as 60.9 percent and as high as 76.9 percent. The company is also planning to lend support to the anti-smoking efforts of local United Kingdom governments in areas where smoking rates have spiked up.
