California Commissioner Condemns Session's Move Against Legal Pot

2015 BY RAINIER EHRHARDT. TRUMP

Cody Falk returns a jar of marijuana to a shelf after helping a customer at Sweet Relief in Astoria. Sessions recently rescinded an Obama administration policy that directed the federal government not to challenge state laws that allow people to use marijuana. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said President Donald Trump's top priority was enforcing federal law "whether it's marijuana or immigration".

In every state where marijuana has been legalized for recreational purposes, local voters at their respective ballot boxes overwhelmingly supported the move.

Gillibrand urged fellow lawmakers to support legislation she proposed that would "keep the federal government out of the way when doctors and patients decide that medical marijuana is the best treatment for them".

"Knowing Attorney General Sessions' deference to states' rights, I strongly encourage the DOJ to meet with Governor Sandoval and Attorney General Laxalt to discuss the implications of changes to federal marijuana enforcement policy".

Sessions did not order a new crackdown on pot sales and use, but told federal prosecutors they could act as they see fit in their districts, leaving the course of implementation unclear.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The US Justice Department on Thursday (Friday in Manila) reversed official policy that had tolerated the growing state-based movement to legalize marijuana sales, just three days after California formally permitted recreational use of the drug.

Spotify's Chief Content Officer Leaves Ahead Of Planned Public Offering
Spotify's top content executive is leaving, just ahead of the streaming music company's planned public offering . His departure comes as Spotify gears up for a public listing, for which it filed paperwork in December.

"I feel at this moment there's still just a lot of questions to be asked", said Oscar Nelson, co-owner of Sweet Relief Natural Medicine.

Today, 29 states have some sort of law allowing for at the very least, medical marijuana.

But the emerging pot industry is rooted in shaky legal ground, complicating regulatory, financial and advertising issues.

The administration's action drew condemnation from marijuana legalization advocates and politicians in both parties in states where the drug has been legalized.

Legal experts do not expect a flood of new cases, and people familiar with the job of US attorney say prosecutors could decide against using already limited resources to seek criminal charges against cannabis companies that abide by state regulations or their customers. Congress would have to change the law for states to be entirely free of federal intervention.

US attorneys around the country responded cautiously to Sessions' announcement.

Raiders to name Gruden coach on Tuesday
The previous coach Jack Del Rio was sacked after the last game of the season, and Gruden is set to interview with them Monday. Owner Mark Davis hopes that will all change now that he has finally lured Gruden back for a second stint as the team's coach.

"Therefore", he continued, "today's memo on federal marijuana enforcement simply directs all USA attorneys to use previously established prosecutorial principles that provide them all the necessary tools to disrupt criminal organizations, tackle the growing drug crisis, and thwart violent crime across our country".

Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman said that state was blindsided by the announcement, according to CNN. But in the aftermath of Sessions' decision, he seems to have backtracked from that position.

"This is an industry that Oregonians have chosen - and one I will do everything in my legal authority to protect", Rosenblum said. I stand with the voters of California in defending California's efforts to legalize cannabis. She said Sessions' directive "simply gives prosecutors the tools to take on large-scale distributors and enforce federal law".

The immediate reaction to Thursday's news from the marijuana industry and some members of Congress was alarm.

Among companies that have invested in the industry, Scotts Miracle-Gro, a gardening product manufacturer, has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to acquire companies that sell soil, lighting, fertilizer and other products to marijuana growers.
