Twitter pauses verifications after Charlottesville rally organizer gets blue check

Jason Kessler the organizer of the

Twitter removed the blue check-mark from white-nationalist Milo Yiannopoulos before banning him from the platform previous year.

The microblogging service provider has temporarily stopped the verification of users on its platform.

"We recognise that we have created this confusion and need to resolve it".

By Thursday morning, Twitter announced it would be halting its entire general verification program.

Syria signs Paris climate agreement
Despite the announcement the French foreign ministry said Syria was not invited to the Paris gathering. The only other previous holdout, Nicaragua, announced in September that it would join the pact.

In an earlier article covering the topic, we noted that Twitter meant to take a look at how it verified public figures.

Twitter says it verifies accounts of "public interests", which typically includes journalists, public figures and celebrities. As The Daily Beast pointed out, the verification came less than a month after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey pledged to "take a more aggressive stance" on "unwanted sexual advances, non-consensual nudity, hate symbols, violent groups, and tweets that glorifies violence".

The White supremacist organizer celebrated his blue check mark on Twitter by tweeting: "Looks like I FINALLY got verified by Twitter. We have paused all general verifications while we work and will report back soon". Those requesting verification have to provide a phone number, a confirmed email, a short biography, a profile photo and more to earn their verified status on the site.

He said the tech firm "failed by not doing anything about it", but Twitter is working faster now to fix the issue. "I must be the only working class white advocate with that distinction".

Baa-rack! Sheep recognise Obama from photo
Earlier studies showed that sheep can recognize their trainers' faces and the faces of other individual sheep in their herd. Morton and her colleagues released eight sheep one-by-one into a pen outfitted with two computer screens.

Twitter has been taking some hits lately. It still doesn't explain why Kessler's account was verified - and regardless of the reasoning, outrage around this move is spreading quickly.

However, some far-right and white-supremacist accounts have now also been verified.

More recently, an applications process was opened up by which accounts could state why they might justify verification, expanding massively the range of people who could potentially be verified.

That's because Kessler is now "verified", meaning that his name may be one of the first to appear when searching through Twitter, likely amplifying his voice on the social media site, as noted by the Washington Examiner.

Danica Roem elected Virginia's first openly transgender state official
