Trump Has No Plans to Block Scheduled Release of JFK Records

Politico magazine earlier quoted Trump administration and other US government officials as saying the president would nearly certainly block the release of information from some of the thousands of classified files, which the US National Archives is due to make public by an Oct 26 deadline.

26 to disclose the remaining files related to Kennedy's 1963 assassination, unless President Donald Trump intervenes.

Trump can withhold the release of certain documents if he believes their release could pose harm to USA intelligence, law enforcement, the military or United States foreign relations.

The thousands of documents are set for release by the National Archives on October 26, but it has been unclear if President Trump would block their release on the basis of national security concerns. Historians don't believe there will be any bombshell findings, but the files could shed light on the CIA's investigation of Lee Harvey Oswald, Kennedy's suspected killer.

Trump's latest travel ban blocked by Hawaii judge
With each iteration of the travel ban, though, the Trump administration has worked harder to make its case for the latter. The precedent Watson relied on in his ruling came from, of all places, Trump's least favorite appeals court: the U.S.

Trump himself is no stranger to the controversies and conspiracy theories that have long swirled around the assassination of the 35th president.

The Washington Post reported earlier Saturday that an unidentified National Security Council official said in an interview that some unnamed federal agencies were asking Trump not to release an unknown number of the files because they involved sources and methods used by the agencies.

If you think the government is hiding something about the Kennedy assassination, you may get to see what it is. But it's unlikely the documents will contain any big revelations on a tragedy that has stirred conspiracy theories for decades, Judge John Tunheim told The Associated Press last month.

The president tweeted Saturday morning that he will allow the release "subject to the release of further information".

Indeed, the poll found that 64 per cent of people would prefer the U.S. found a diplomatic solution to resolving its stand-off with North Korea .

Trump's tweet did allow some wiggle room for last-minute exclusions by noting that his decision was "subject to receipt of further information".

They are interested, however, to see if any new details emerge over Lee Harvey Oswald, Kennedy's assassin, activities in Mexico in the fall of 1963. Phillips, Morley said, oversaw the agency's operations against Cuban president Fidel Castro and was deeply familiar with the CIA's surveillance of Oswald in Mexico City.

Scholars have been speculating for weeks whether Trump would release the documents related to Kennedy's death.
