Kelly: 'I don't think I'm being fired today'

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly insisted Thursday he's not quitting or being fired - for now.

Nielsen told the president she was "humbled by the trust you are placing in me".

"It's amusing, I read in the paper, you all know you write it, that I've been a failure at controlling the president or controlling his tweeting", the White House chief of staff said.

Drawing attention to fire prevention
The children learned about fire prevention and safety, and also received coloring books and a junior firefighter plastic hat. Submitted.Russellville firefighters visited Dwight Elementary School Tuesday for Fire Prevention week.

Kelly said he was brought into the West Wing to "put some organization into it", but not necessarily to try to control the president - or oversee an "adult day care center", as Sen. And at Trump's speech last month before the U.N., Kelly had his head in his hands.

"People should be concerned about a state that has developed a pretty good ICBM capability", Kelly said, addressing the threat to Guam as well as the US mainland.

But even before Trump formally announced Nielsen's appointment during an East Room ceremony that was attended by much of the Cabinet and senior members of the White House staff, the top Democrat on a key committee signalled that he had questions about Nielsen's background. "Not all of you, but many of you". "Some person that works way down inside an office - or well, just develop some better sources".

US Rep. Al Green, Houston Democrat, unveils articles of impeachment against Trump
The rapper compared Trump's sins to those of President Bill Clinton, who was impeached in 1998 though not removed from office. Earlier this year, Mr Green announced that he was drafting articles of impeachment that he planned to bring before the House.

Kelly also noted that "Congress has been frustrating" to the President. "I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are operating off of contacts, leaks, whatever you call them, but I will just offer to you the advice, I'd say maybe develop some better sources". The best job I've ever had, as I've said many times, is when I was an enlisted marine sergeant infantryman.

Although Trump recently declared that secretary of state Rex Tillerson was "wasting his time" trying to negotiate Pyongyang, Kelly added: "Let's hope diplomacy works". Kelly was elevated to the post from homeland security secretary in July. President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to nominate Nielsen to succeed Kelly as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
