India calls Rohingya refugees 'threat to national security'

Rohingyas are threat to national security, can't stay as illegal refugees: Govt to Supreme Court

Rohingya Muslims are neither accepted by Myanmar nor its neighbor Bangladesh and live in in constant fear following the Indian government's plan to deport 40,000 Rohingya refugees.

Myanmar's presidential spokesman on Saturday said there's no evidence of any trespassing and that Dhaka should have reached out to discuss its concerns instead of issuing public statements.

Bangladesh, which is facing a big influx of Rohingyas from Myanmar, has called on the global community to intervene and put pressure on Myanmar to address the exodus.

The issue of illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants has become hugely contentious as the home ministry has already stated that they were a potential security risk as they were more vulnerable to getting roped in by terror outfits. The duo also stated that they were registered as refugees under the United Nations High Commission of Refugees (UNHCR) and have challenged any possible move to deport them on the grounds that it violated global human rights conventions and some other issues.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have started picking their own Champions League of the Week, and Stones has made his way in. The hat-trick from Aguero left the Spaniard claiming that his player should already be widely-known as a Man City legend.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had on 5 September said the Rohingya were illegal immigrants and stood to be deported.

The government contended that the policy decision to expel Rohingya refugees from India is based on objective factors and it should not be tinkered with by the Supreme Court in its PIL jurisdiction.

Rohingyas are a Muslim minority of Myanmar who have fled to neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and India to escape violence. According to home ministry officials there were almost 40,000 Rohingya Muslims staying illegally in the country. According to unofficial estimates, there are almost 40,000 Rohingyas in India, largely located in Jammu, Hyderabad, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan. The ministry had directed state governments to set up a task force at the district level to identify and deport illegally staying foreign nationals.

The central government on Thursday in their "unfinalised affidavit" had said that Rohingyas pose a security threat to the country. "When it was told that they (Lankan refugees) are taking part in terror, what was done?"

"We will also submit a memorandum before the United Nations and the OIC to put pressure on the Myanmar government to take back the Rohingya and ensure their citizenship", he added.

Rohingya crisis: Govt takes tough stance in Supreme Court. Myanmar government does not recognise Rohingyas as their citizens.

This development comes days after Bangladesh briefed India about the problems faced by it due to the influx of refugees from Myanmar following the ethnic violence in the Buddhist-majority nation.
