Watch Beck Play Tribute to Late Walter Becker of Steely Dan

Walter Becker, Steely Dan Co-Founder, Dead at 67

Walter Becker, bassist and guitarist, co-founder of the american group Steely Dan to the inspirations of jazz, rock and reggae, has died Sunday at the age of 67, according to information posted on its website.

Ending his tribute, Fagan said, "I intend to keep the music we created together as long as I can".

After becoming musical collaborators as students at New York's Bard College, Becker and Fagen went on to turn out numerous hit songs during the 1970s, including "Rikki Don't Lose that Number", "Deacon Blues", "Kid Charlemagne", "Hey Nineteen", and "My Old School". "Luckily, he was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter", the statement read.

Fagen described his bandmate as "cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically amusing".

Jim McElwain was outcoached against MI because he focused on redeeming himself
The Gators had won 27 consecutive season openers, the nation's longest such streak, since a home loss to MS in 1989. Perry finished the day with four catches, being the only Wolverine who record more than two receptions.

Wrote Judd Apatow: "have played no band more often or enjoyed any music more than Steely Dan". What other commercial band would build out an eight-minute track complete with Asian themes and sentiments ("Aja") and have jazz powerhouse Wayne Shorter serve as lead soloist (on saxophone!) on it over a lead guitarist?

Becker was born in Queens, and he graduated from Stuyvesant, one of New York's most selective public high schools, in 1968. After a 20-year hiatus following 1980's Gaucho, the duo returned with 2000's Two Against Nature, which won four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. But it will forever be part of Steely Dan's fortune that Becker's role, as deceptively passive as it might have seemed, was touted as prominently as Fagen's.

In a press conference call, Billboard reported that Steely Dan's Donald Fagen said of Becker's health, "Walter's recovering from a procedure and hopefully he'll be fine very soon".

Grammy scripter and erstwhile Rolling Stone writer David Wild said Becker "opened up my mind musically and made being a wiseass a courageous act of Pretzel Logic".

Florida State QB Deondre Francois out for the season
After an Alabama three-and-out, Florida State took over from its own 30-yard line with 55 seconds remaining in the second quarter. When Tide running backs Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris tried to run up the middle, there was practically nowhere for them to go.

Modern listeners associate Steely Dan with the slick sounds of southern California and for good reason.

In late 1993 Becker and Fagen got back together for a tour -- their first in 19 years. Like too many musicians, Becker had become drawn to the darker side of the profession and fell into drug addiction.

Mr. Becker had suffered some personal hardships during this time, including addiction, his girlfriend's death by overdose and a resulting lawsuit, and a serious injury he sustained after being struck by a cab.

In 2008, Becker went out on his second solo album, Circus Money, in which he expressed his love for reggae.

WEATHER: Highs in the low 90s expected Sunday
Officials warned of wildfire danger as hot, dry, smoky days were forecast across OR and Washington over the holiday weekend. Southern California has also had lightning, thunder, downpours and localized street flooding fed by monsoonal moisture.
