North Korea says it is ready to teach U.S. 'severe lesson'

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. Mc Cain transits into Subic Bay Republic of the Philippines to refuel and resupply

Despite being economically isolated, North Korea exports about $3bn worth of products and maintains trade relations chiefly with China, India, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Russia, Thailand and the Philippines.

President Trump hailed the U.N. Security Council's unanimous approval Saturday of tough new sanctions on North Korea, including a ban on exports worth over $1 billion - a huge bite in its total exports, valued at $3 billion a year ago.

North Korea condemned the latest round of United Nations sanctions and reiterated that it wouldn't negotiate over its nuclear program until the USA ceases "hostile" policies.

In Kang's later meeting with Wang, however, China expressed doubts about the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system's ability to protect South Korea.

The country said the missiles had the distance to reach the United States.

Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho also says that his country has no intention of using nuclear weapons against any country "except the US".

In Delhi, some 400-500 scientists, researchers , students and others took part in the rally from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar. India's March for Science has drawn its inspiration from the global scientific march that took place on Earth Day in April.

Stop testing missiles for an "extended period", Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said, and the US might deem North Korea ready to talk.

The U.S. sanctions regime, said John Sifton, Asia Advocacy Director at Human Rights Watch, is multi-faceted, as it takes aim at individuals who are involved in human rights abuses.

The U.N. Security Council passed a U.S. -drafted resolution Saturday approving the "the single largest economic sanctions package ever leveled against the North Korean regime" and "the most stringent set of sanctions on any country in a generation", according to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley.

The South Korean envoy held a rare but brief meeting in Manila with North Korea's top diplomat, who also spoke by phone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who had discussed the sanctions with Tillerson a day before. Trump's administration began floating potential plans to punish China for its trade practices in what was widely perceived as a reaction to China's inaction on North Korea.

North Korean state TV's famous news anchor defiantly announced that the country would never put its weapons on the negotiating table, despite what the North has labelled "fabricated" United Nations sanctions.

"He will continue working with allies and partners to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on North Korea to end its threatening and destabilising behaviour".

Mattis to Kim Jong-un: US Would 'End' North Korean Regime
North Korea immediately called Trump's rhetoric a "load of nonsense" that was aggravating a grave situation. The US has large military bases in the Guam, strategic bombers and about 163,000 people.

The latest United Nations resolution bans North Korean exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood.

US relations with North Korea are rapidly growing more tense - and all the United States has to show for it so far are a new round of sanctions.

Though Beijing repeated its call for the United States and North Korea to resume talks, the US said that was still premature, and rejected yet again a Chinese call for the U.S.to freeze joint military exercises with South Korea in exchange for the North halting nuclear development.

Guam, a tropical island more than 3,000 km (2,000 miles) to the southeast of North Korea, is home to about 163,000 people.

With a newfound ability to turn rhetoric into reality, the USA and its worldwide partners can expect additional provocations from the extremely hostile North Korean regime.

However, signalling that differences remained between the world powers on how to handle the North, Mr Wang on Sunday reiterated China's position that sanctions alone would not solve the problem and called again for the United States to talk to the North. "Not this kind of episodic back and forth that we've seen".
