McConnell Delays Vote On Health Care Bill Until After July 4

Mitch McConnell

"Legislation of this complexity nearly always takes longer than anybody would hope", McConnell added, as GOP Senators were to meet later in the day with President Donald Trump at the White House.

Hoeven said in a Monday evening statement the CBO score "indicates that this legislation needs additional work" and that health care reform "will be a process, not one bill".

Several moderate Republicans as well as those facing tough re-election prospects flagged the proposed Medicaid rollback, particularly in states gripped by the opioid addition crisis.

"A vote this week would have been rushed", said Sen.

"I think the Senate bill is going to be great. We are getting very close".

In the United States, it affected companies such as the drugmaker Merck and food conglomerate Mondelez International. The broadcaster published an image of the screen of an affected machine with a message demanding a $300 payment.

McConnell had hoped to push the measure through his chamber by week's end, before an Independence Day recess that party leaders fear will be used by foes of the legislation to tear away support.

The Senate health care bill is so bad that after the Congressional Budget Office announced Monday afternoon it would force 22 million people to lose coverage, Republicans began to walk away from the legislation. Mike Lee of Utah also said he would oppose the procedural move barring tweaks to the bill, according to The Associated Press.

Lee deserves credit, Matheson said, for "standing up for the hardworking Utahn, the one who's not getting anything out of the current bill. We've got a lot of discussions going on, and we're still optimistic we're going to get there".

The report prompted Senator Susan Collins, a key moderate vote, to say she could not support moving forward on the bill as it stands.

Collins has said she is considering a run for ME governor next year.

There were 34 minor injuries , including smoke inhalation, according to the New York Times, and 17 were taken to nearby hospitals. MTA officials said the derailment caused damage to the tracks and the switch system, and emergency repairs are required.

Portman has been seen as a critical voice on the Republican health care bill and was publicly undecided until Tuesday.

Earlier Tuesday, Collins took a dig at the President, suggesting Trump's lack of political experience is partly to blame for the GOP's struggles to pass the legislation. Ron Johnson, and Texas Sen.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul tweeted about his visit, saying he was: "Headed to meet with @realDonaldTrump this afternoon". That's less than the 23-million predicted for the House version. The bill also preserves some entitlements, scaring off Cruz and Paul who want a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

The 22 million figure, which is only a slight improvement from the CBO's estimate of the health care bill passed by the House of Representatives in May, comes in the office's analysis of the Better Care Reconciliation Act, a draft of which was released last week.

It would let states ease Obama's requirements that insurers cover certain specified services like substance abuse treatments. The bill would cut taxes, reduce the deficit and phase out the Medicaid expansion implemented by Barack Obama's health law.

Most of the people who would lose their insurance coverage would be those who are enrolled in Medicaid; by 2026, there would be 15 million fewer people on Medicaid.
