With cameras banned, CNN sends sketch artist to White House briefing

They returned to face the White House Press Corps on Friday, albeit during a much-maligned audio-only gaggle, to which CNN sent a sketch artist to compose visuals for its viewers en lieu of permissible cameras.

For reasons that remain unstated, the White House has recently started holding a good chunk of its press briefings off-camera.

So CNN sent Bill Hennessy, who usually illustrates Supreme Court proceedings for the network, to sketch Sean Spicer's latest updates from the Trump administration. CNN reports that, while he didn't have his "usual easel", he was nonetheless able to sketch the briefing from the back of the room on Friday.

While some voices at conservative media outlets have criticised the sketch session, CNN is arguing that it "did serve a journalistic goal, in the same way that courtroom sketches do".

On Thursday, going back on years of tradition, the White House announced that they would not allow audio or video recording during the day's press briefing.

Heller, who is up for reelection in 2018, has expressed concerns about the way the measure addresses the future of Medicaid. Unlimited federal dollars now flow to each state for the program, covering all eligible beneficiaries and services.

As Mr. Spicer and Ms. Sanders have been trading briefing duties, Mr. Spicer has spoken with potential candidates to take over the daily role at the White House lectern.

He said Friday that Trump stands by his January comment that, "As far as hacking, I think it was Russian Federation", but that "we also get hacked by other countries and other people". "I wouldn't read everything that you see in some of these Washington-based publications". But in an interview on Fox News on Friday, Mr. Spicer demurred when he was asked if he was taking on a new role.

"I think it's great for us to come out here and have a substantive discussion about policies", he added.
