We'll see rain from Cindy soon

Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall early Thursday morning with max winds of 40 miles per hour.

Although Cindy is expected to continue weakening over the next 48 hours, the National Weather Service said the weather disturbance could still produce a few tornadoes Thursday night from the lower MS and Tennessee Valley regions to the central Gulf Coast.

A boy on an Alabama beach was struck and killed Wednesday by a log washed ashore by the storm.

According to the flash flood watch, in general, 1 and a half to 3 and a half inches of rain is possible across the watch area, with locally heavier amounts, as the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy combine with a cold front dropping in from the northwest.

Forecasters are trying to determine how many tornadoes touched down in Alabama as remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy moved north from the Gulf Coast.

The Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect from High Island, Texas to Morgan City, Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The No. 8 pick, point guard Frank Ntilikina to the New York Knicks, wasn't a freshman, but he's from France and is only 18. The NBA champion Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers didn't have a pick in the two-round draft.

"For most of us, the rain has not been terribly heavy, with amounts generally holding under.25". Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall.

To reduce the chances of flash flooding, the Tennessee Valley Authority lowered levels in nine lakes, the agency said.

Appalachian Power reports 1,800 without electricity in West Virginia's northern panhandle, where heavy rain fell Friday morning, and another 800 in Charleston. Even Indiana in the Midwest felt the impact of Cindy, which sprang Tuesday from the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm before roughing up the Deep South and making landfall Thursday.

Heavy downpours are expected Thursday in East Texas, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.

The severe weather forecast comes almost on the anniversary of last year's torrential rains and flooding, which killed 23 people in West Virginia. Although there will be lulls from time to time Thursday evening, periods of light rain will be possible all the way through the night. But Cindy was also bringing rain to an area that needed it. Southeastern Arkansas hadn't seen significant rain in more than a week. Flash flood watches were in effect in much of Kentucky.

In southwest Louisiana, not far from where Cindy came ashore before dawn, trucks navigated knee-high water in the streets of Cameron Parish - but there was no serious flooding.

Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said Nolan McCabe of St. Louis was playing with a large log in the surf outside of a condo when a strong wave slammed the log into his head, causing severe facial injuries and crushing his skull. Distributed over 100,000 sandbags to the counties; Prepared to send more if requested.

Floating colonies of fire ants could form in flood waters as Tropical Storm Cindy trudges inland. The storm's maximum sustained winds had decreased to near 40 miles per hour, with higher gusts.

Weather forecasters are expecting a third day of rough weather for Gulf Coast states as Tropical Storm Cindy approaches.

Numerous coastal roads and highways flooded and there were scattered reports of power outages and building damage from wind or water.
