Tester slams Senate health-care bill; Daines, Gianforte seek input

Senate Majority leader Mitch Mc Connell smiles as he leaves the chamber after announcing the release of the Republicans' healthcare bill which represents the party's long-awaited attempt to scuttle much of President Barack Obama's Affordable

Health insurers are concerned about the U.S. Senate's plans to cut the Medicaid program for the poor and the impact such a move would have on state governments, the industry's largest lobbyist said on Friday.

The president had previously asked the GOP-led Senate to pass a more "generous" bill than the one that was approved by the House - saying it was too "mean".

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants the bill to come to a vote by July 4th. We know that. And we know that there needs to be something that helps keep healthy people in the pool, because if we leave people to their own devices to buy health insurance when they get sick, that will just drive the cost up for everybody.

The bill would let states get waivers to ignore some coverage requirements under Obama's law, such as specific health services insurers must now cover.

Bend the Arc: Jewish Action also decried the measure.

Two things went in her favour, one that she belongs to the Congress and was selected by its chief Sonia Gandhi. Meira Kumar , daughter of former Deputy Prime Minister and Dalit icon Babu Jagjivan Ram, hails from Bihar .

The Maine lawmaker added that she also couldn't support a bill that made deep cuts to Medicaid while also stating that she does care that funding to Planned Parenthood is being impacted. In addition, the proposed changes to Medicaid financing for people who were newly covered under Obamacare and those in the standard Medicaid program are dramatic.

Trump later criticized the House bill privately as "mean" and this week called for a health plan "with heart".

Trump has spoken favorably about both the House-passed bill and the Senate version unveiled this week, though he declared several times as he ramped up his campaign for the presidency that he would not cut Medicaid.

The new legislation would eliminate numerous taxes enacted under the ACA to fund the expansion of health insurance coverage.

The Senate bill also ties its cap on Medicaid spending to the overall Consumer Price Index, which is generally lower than the medical Consumer Price Index the House bill linked the cap on spending to.

New blow to GOP health bill: Nevada GOP Sen. Heller opposes
Obama law: Medicaid expansion has enabled many states to provide comprehensive treatment to people caught in the opioid epidemic. And third, the AHCA could also make it harder for some people to gain coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

Jeffrey Hulburt, president and CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization - a value-based physician and hospital network and an Accountable Care Organization in MA, meanwhile, cautioned that the Medicaid cuts proposed in the Senate GOP bill could derail progress the state has made in overhauling how it delivers and pays for low-income health care. How many will lose health coverage is unknown if the bill remains intact, which is unlikely.

From February through May, the nightly broadcasts on ABC, CBS and NBC devoted a total of 204 minutes to the effort in the House of Representatives to repeal and replace Obamacare, according to Andrew Tyndall, who monitors the network news coverage. Some moderates in the GOP have expressed concerns, particularly about the Medicaid cuts, but they face intense pressure to hold to the party's longtime promise of repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The enhanced federal financing that pays for the expansion would disappear entirely in 2024.

In 2015 Montana became one of 32 states that chose to expand access to Medicaid to those earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level under the Affordable Care Act. That focuses financial assistance on people with lower incomes. "She has met with and heard the concerns of many Mainers about their health care challenges, and she will continue to do so as she studies the impact of this legislation on ME and the nation". Trump has threatened to halt payment of the subsidies, which reimburse insurers so they can reduce out-of-pocket costs for low-income people. Republicans have been under fire for crafting the bill in secret. Here's a look at the rate of enrollment per 100,000 people of adults in each state who gained coverage under the expansion in the first quarter of 2016 alone.

The Senate legislation provides less money, however, for the opioid epidemic, allocating $2 billion in 2018, compared with $45 billion over 10 years in the House version. "The press can keep health care in the news by covering the debate in the states, talking to people who are lobbying on the Hill, and pushing hard to cover substantial issues that are playing out away from Congress".
