North Korea denies USA claims that Otto Warmbier was tortured

Meanwhile, Rodman and his agent feel they are partially responsible for the North Korea's release of American college student Otto Warmbier, who died last Monday, just days after being medically evacuated from a North Korean prison on the day the former National Basketball Association star arrived.

The article published by KCNA Friday was Pyongyang's first reaction to the death of Warmbier.

It accused South Korea of tarnishing North Korea's image with "slanderous talk about cruel treatment and torture" while having no knowledge of the "humanitarian" treatment Warmbier received. Doctors in the USA said Warmbier had severe brain damage and was in a state of "unresponsive wakefulness".

American student Otto Warmbier was held in a North Korean prison camp for a a year and a half for allegedly stealing a poster, before he was emergency air-lifted home in mid-June while in a coma.

"Our related institutions are treating criminals who committed crimes against (our) republic strictly based on domestic law and global standards, and Warmbier was no different", the comments published by KCNA said.

North Korea: Obama Policy to Blame for 'Mystery' Death of Otto Warmbier
Warmbier had been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for removing a propaganda banner from a hotel while on a church trip. Mr Gratton said the first he heard of the alleged attempted theft was when it was mentioned in news reports weeks later.

North Korea has been accused of of using foreign detainees to try to win diplomatic concessions.

The officials' statements come a day after President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter saying that China and Xi Jinping had tried, but failed, in helping rein in North Korea. According to CNN, Warmbier's doctors said the 22-year-old student was in a condition they called "unresponsive wakefulness" or "persistent vegetative state".

Ria Westergaard Pedersen, 33, who was with Warmbier in North Korea, told the Danish broadcaster TV2 that he had been nervous when taking pictures of soldiers, and said she doubted North Korea's explanation for his arrest.

Warmbier died days after his return to the United States, and his funeral was held Thursday in his hometown of Wyoming, Ohio. It said that the public opinion Warmbier had died due to beating and torture was "groundless".

Just a few days after his return to the United States, Otto Warmbier passed away.

Gulf crisis: Qatar's neighbors issue ultimatum, call for Al-Jazeera shutdown
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the U.S. hoped the list of demands , once released, would be "reasonable and actionable". Qatari officials have not yet responded to CNN's requests for comment but said they would issue a statement later Friday.

Warmbier was traveling in North Korea with a tour group.

"When I was organizing the trip and I (met) with the delegates here, I addressed Otto Warmbier and I said to them we would need some type of good faith if we're ever going to do some type of future sports relations". "It ain't about trying to release people", Rodman said. We jumped up and down.

Rodman is feeling the major blowback and insisting, "I didn't know that he was sick".

President Trump said on Monday North Korea's authorities were responsible for the student's death, stressing that his administration planned to prevent any new such incidents.
