Ferguson attorney: Brown family settlement $1.5 million

The city attorney for Ferguson, Missouri, has disclosed the settlement amount in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Michael Brown.

Michael Brown Sr. and Lezley McSpadden sued the city, former Police Chief Tom Jackson and Wilson in 2015.

Almost three years have passed since 18-year-old Michael Brown died in Ferguson, Missouri when he was shot several times by Officer Darren Wilson.

Terror plot to attack Grand Mosque in Mecca foiled
Saudi Arabia has in recent years seen a series of deadly attacks, many of which were claimed by so-called Islamic State . Al-Arabiya said a suicide bomber hiding in a house in Mecca opened fire on security forces and later blew himself up.

Brown's death sparked civil unrest in Ferguson and throughout the St. Louis area. Part of the legal case for the settlement was that his family was deprived of the financial support from Brown's future wages, indicating that the money may be needed to help cover basic living expenses.

Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer on August 9, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri. The suit claimed that Ferguson police's culture of being hostile to black residents led to Wilson using excessive force and killing Brown.

A jury declined to indict Mr Wilson, who has since left the police force, after finding there was sufficient evidence to prove he had been attacked by Michael Brown.

Senate health care bill: How is it different from the House's legislation?
Sandoval, a Republican who chose to opt into expanding Medicaid, said 210,000 received health coverage because of the decision. That would focus the aid more on people with lower incomes than the House legislation, which bases its subsidies on age.

But the investigation led to a Justice Department lawsuit over racially biased police and court practices.

The process is expected to cost more than $2 million and could take years.

Federal District Judge E. Richard Webber approved the settlement, stating that it was "fair and reasonable compensation for this wrongful death claim and is in the best interests of each Plaintiff", instructing that the money was to be split between the two parents.

Health insurers says Senate bill's Medicaid cuts to hurt states
Sandoval said he would do "everything in my power" to make sure those people can maintain the quality of life they now have. And while I know that division makes it hard to listen to Americans with whom we disagree, that's what we need to do today.

The judge ordered the settlement agreement sealed, writing that its disclosure "could jeopardize the safety of individuals involved in this matter, whether as witnesses, parties, or investigators", the newspaper reported. However, a report this morning fromthe St. Louis Post-Dispatch - citing Ferguson city attorney Apollo Carey - revealed the settlement's dollar amount, which apparently will be paid by the city's insurance company "on behalf of multiple defendants".
