Trump makes case for apprenticeships to fill jobs gap

Trump signed an executive order to roughly double to $200 million the taxpayer money spent on learn-and-earn programs under a grant system called ApprenticeshipUSA. "Apprenticeships are going to be a big, big factor in our country". Now there are 11,000 adults and 3,500 high school students in apprenticeship programs overseen by the state.

Two days later, as White House officials struggled to return the focus to infrastructure week, Trump - seemingly out of the blue - tweeted that he had landed on a pick for Federal Bureau of Investigation director, sending his White House scrambling. There were 6 million job openings in April, a record high. But, he said, there are now about 6.9 American workers unemployed.

One thing that likely will not be in Trump's plan: a surge in spending. Joining him, from third from left are his daughter Ivanka Trump, Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C.

Vagueness can also be a political ploy, Cole said. Senior administration officials have said Trump was reluctant to spend more federal money on apprenticeships, so the boost would come from existing money, perhaps from the streamlining process. Trump, he said, is "very familiar" with apprenticeships through his work with construction through the years.

Focus shifts from shooting to Congressional Baseball Game
Sanders said, "Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms". President Donald Trump addressed the attack, saying the assailant has died because of injuries suffered during the shooting .

"I've been on the Trump tax policy proposals beat since the beginning - let's see how many days it has been - one sec", Cole said. Acosta has made a decision to let go through, for now, a "fiduciary rule" that would require financial advisers to put the interests of clients first that is opposed by many Republicans, including Reps. "A report that former President Barack Obama's Commerce Department released in 2016 that "apprenticeships are not fully understood in the United States, especially" by employers, who tend to use apprentices for a few, hard-to-fill positions" but not as widely as they could.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, President Trump will talk about actions the administration can take to further its goals to close the skills gap.

But the White House said the two leaders had not discussed the topic. About 95 percent of employers say they're having difficulty finding skilled and available workers, according to a recent survey by Business Roundtable.

On Monday Durbin and others who gathered for a press conference in Chicago painted a grim picture for job possibilities for young people without a high school diploma. And it calls on Congress to allow student loans to apply to technical college education or on the job training. Helping workers get the newest, most relevant skills makes them more productive and sometimes keeps them employed when they'd otherwise be on the dole. "No matter how good it is - if it's the greatest healthcare plan ever devised, we will get zero votes by the obstructionists, the Democrats".

It will see United come up against Maryport midfielder Dempsey for the first time since he left Brunton Park in 2015. Their only previous visit to Highbury resulted in a 2-0 defeat in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2013.

"We may have our differences, but we do well in times like these to remember that everyone who serves in our nation's capital is here because, above all, they love our country", Trump said Wednesday, responding to the shooting.

Over the a year ago, the Milwaukee resident went from cleaning houses for $12 an hour to helping demolish them for $24.

He then touted the upcoming announcement, potentially later this week, on an apprenticeship initiative by his administration.

Under the executive order, the Department of Labor will allow more entities - including companies, trade associations and unions - to create job-training programs that will be eligible for federal recognition and support.
