Trump lashes out at 'bad' Russia investigators

Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8 he believed Trump had directed him in February to drop an FBI probe into former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, that was part of the broader Russian Federation investigation.

The Washington Post reported late on Wednesday that President Donald Trump is now under investigation in the Senate probe on Russian meddling in the US election. Comey testified in a Senate hearing last week that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation". Trump was reviving his claim that Rosenstein urged him to fire Comey in a memo, though Trump himself disputed this reasoning shortly after in an interview with NBC News's Lester Holt, in which he said "regardless of the recommendation, I was going to fire Comey".

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's legal team, denounced the Post report, saying on Wednesday: "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

Ahmed said he alerted his aunt, whom he lived with on the eighth floor, to the fire and then began "knocking on neighbors' doors". An investigation into the cause of the blaze, the worst in the British capital in a generation, was under way.

The lawyer for the president's son-in-law and close adviser said there was nothing surprising about the Post's report.

Trump and his supporters have repeatedly complained about leaked reports about the progress of Mueller's investigation, many of which have appeared in either the Post or The New York Times.

Mueller's friendship with Comey and Mueller's selection of several investigators who have made campaign donations to Democrats are among the issues Gingrich is raising as problematic.

As former Sen. John Danforth, who as a special counsel investigated the 1993 Waco siege disaster, has said: "You can't have an investigation that is dribbled out there in bits and pieces and suspicions". The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.

Regardless of the outcome, the specter of Mueller examining the possibility of obstruction of justice appeared to be a new blow to Trump, whose first five months in office have been clouded by the federal and congressional probes into the Russian Federation issue.

Grassley announced the investigation in a letter to California Sen. Grassley's office said the letter is in response to a recent letter from Feinstein requesting that the committee seek details from senior Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership about Comey's interactions with President Donald Trump before he was sacked. "It is my view that fully investigating the facts, circumstances, and rationale for Mr. Comey's removal will provide us the opportunity to do that on a cooperative, bipartisan basis", according to the letter.
