President Trump denounces reports of widening Russia probe

In a pair of earlier tweets, Trump called the investigation "phony" and the "greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history".

The FBI probe, now in the hands of special counsel Robert Mueller, shifted its focus to allegations of obstruction in the days after Trump fired the agency's then-director James Comey on May 9.

President Trump dismissed a potential obstruction of justice investigation into his conduct, calling allegations of collusion between him, his campaign or people associated with him and Russian Federation a "phony story".

Mueller is interviewing as early as this week three top intelligence officials as part of the probe, the Post reported, citing "five people briefed on the requests".

Trump 'faces obstruction of justice probe'
The special counsel has witness testimony and physical evidence to weigh when evaluating if Trump obstructed justice. A spokesman for Mr Mueller declined to comment.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators have asked for information and will talk to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Adm. Mike Rogers, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Except it gets worse: Trump didn't just discuss the Russian Federation investigation with former FBI Director James Comey - he fired Comey and then said on national television he fired him because of the Russian Federation investigation. In testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, Comey affirmed that he previously told Trump he was not personally being investigated in the FBI's counterintelligence probe.

White House spokesman Mark Corallo said: "The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal". I would say that Republicans in Washington are nearly unanimous in the opinion that to do that would cause a political firestorm that would be yet another self-inflicted wound of the president's own making.

"Mueller is setting up a dragnet of obstruction, financial questions and every aspect of Trump's life and his associates lives", Gingrich wrote on Twitter, adding "very unsafe".

A statement from the department noted that Department of Homeland Security Secretary John F. It comes amid a tough crackdown on illegal immigration ordered by President Donald Trump .

The report, largely based on unnamed officials, says that Mueller's team of investigators are also searching for any "evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates". The Washington Post report suggests that scrutiny has been folded into the special counsel office, and includes Kushner's business dealings, though it offers no details on what that scrutiny is. A clear majority of Americans believe Trump has tried to interfere with the investigation into Russia's alleged election meddling and possible Trump campaign collusion, a new poll shows. "Nice", Mr Trump wrote on Twitter, later repeating his accusation that the probe is a "witch hunt". Last month, news surfaced that Kushner may have discussed creating a secret communications channel between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin with Kislyak.

The Senate intelligence committee has also interviewed Johnson in connection with its investigation of Russian activities during last year's election campaign.

Late on Thursday, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who is overseeing the Russian Federation investigation issued a statement saying the Justice Department does not confirm or deny the kind of allegations in news reports about the probe, and encouraging the public to be skeptical of them. News accounts this week said Trump was considering firing him, but the White House eventually said he does not plan to.

Justice Department policy is that a sitting president can not be indicted by a grand jury, the Post also reported Wednesday. However, a finding of wrongdoing would likely be left to Congress to consider whether it warranted criminal impeachment.

Will Trump sack Mueller? His Florida friend says he's considering that
The comment came in response to questions from Democratic Sen. "I did not talk to the president about the issue", Ruddy said. If - you might remember after Comey's testimony, the President said that he felt vindicated by Comey's statements.
