Congressional shooter's wife: 'I'm sorry that he did this'

Suspected gunman James Hodgkinson was a former volunteer for the Sanders presidential campaign, the newspaper noted. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms. Rep. Steve Scalise, the House Majority Whip, was shot in the hip and is now undergoing surgery.

"He didn't say anything. he was just shooting", said Peoples, who was about to teach an exercise class at a nearby YMCA.

"President Donald Trump visited Scalise in the hospital, afterward tweeting in part: "...

The report says Hodgkinson resorted to dragging his daughter out of her friend's vehicle, slashing her seatbelt, and punching his daughter's friend in the face. His most serious problems apparently came in 2006, when he was arrested on a battery charge.

Investigation Continues Into Congressional Baseball Practice Gunman
Hodgkinson said she only learned of the shooting and her husband's involvement when a reporter called to ask her about the events. In 2006, Hodgkinson was arrested for battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the assault of a woman.

In 2002, the paper said, the Hodgkinsons assumed legal guardianship of their 12-year-old great niece.

Suzanne Hodgkinson, who spoke to the press at her home Thursday afternoon, said she had "no idea" her husband was going to shoot at people during a practice for a congressional baseball game in Alexandria, Virginia.

There was even a man who went to a pizzeria in Washington and fired shots inside because he believed a completely fabricated story about a child-sex ring.

Jack McClenahan, a retired Belleville business owner, said he had several unpleasant run-ins with Hodgkinson over the years while Hodgkinson protested a favored Democratic political cause outside the local post office. After Hodgkinson's Facebook profiles were discovered by news reporters, they were updated to prevent public access.

Congressional Baseball Game took on special meaning a day after shooting
Republicans met this morning for what was described to me as a family meeting, just a chance to get together and talk about him. The assailant had nursed grievances against President Donald Trump and the GOP - and was shot by police and later died.

"My prayer is we can resolve our differences in a way that furthers the preamble to the constitution takes us closer to E pluribus Unum", said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Police said Hodgkinson had a valid gun license, but an officer at the scene told him to shoot safely, given the nearby homes. None of the three victims showed up in court, so the case was dismissed later that year.

A police report in IL also details an incident in 2006 with Hodgkinson's daughter and her friends - one that involved a gun. Sanders says the man authorities identified as opening fire on the practice had apparently volunteered on his presidential campaign. While we don't yet fully know the motive behind this shameful act of evil, there is no doubt the heroism of the Capitol Police saved lives this morning.

"I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late 70s in San Francisco", said the then-speaker of the House, referencing the infamous assassination of a city councilman and mayor in the city.

Attack on United States lawmakers: What we know
Brad Wenstrup, a podiatrist who served as a combat surgeon in Iraq, used scissors to cut Scalise's trousers to get to his wound. Senator Bernie Sanders condemned the shooting and said the suspect "apparently volunteered" on his presidential campaign.
