Castile jury ends 4th day without verdict

Jurors have spent nearly as many days deliberating as they have hearing testimony and reviewing evidence. Witness testified that the gun was in the pocket of Castile's shorts when paramedics pulled him from the vehicle.

- The jurors resumed deliberations at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the trial of St. Anthony, Minnesota police officer Jeronimo Yanez after appearing to be an impasse Wednesday afternoon.

Juries are several days into deliberating on two high profile court cases this week.

Yanez is charged with one count of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of Philando Castile during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights last summer. He was too quick to fire after learning Castile had a gun, based on an unreasonable suspicion that he was a suspect in a robbery.

Prosecution rests in Cosby trial
Prosecutors introduced his lurid testimony from a decade ago about how he gave pills to Andrea Constand and then fondled her. Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial entered its fifth day on Friday, hearing from two crucial witnesses for the prosecution.

In that Facebook video, Castile - bleeding heavily - insists that he hadn't been reaching for his gun, which he had a permit to carry. Yanez had pulled Castile's auto over in a St. Paul suburb last July 6. Yanez, who is Latino, fired seconds after Castile informed the officer that he was carrying a gun.

On Tuesday, jurors requested another look at dashcam video captured by Yanez's squad vehicle that shows the shooting. On squad-car video of the traffic stop, Castile tells Yanez, "Sir, I have to tell you, I do have a firearm on me".

Yanez is also charged with two counts of risky discharge of a firearm for allegedly endangering the lives of Reynolds and her 4-year-old daughter in the back seat.

Conviction on the manslaughter charge requires the jury to find Yanez guilty of "culpable negligence", which the judge described in jury instructions as gross negligence with an element of recklessness. The other video was made by Castile's girlfriend. The video went viral and sparked protests locally and nationally about excessive use of force by police officers, particularly against black men. "I was scared for my life".

Congressional Baseball Game took on special meaning a day after shooting
Republicans met this morning for what was described to me as a family meeting, just a chance to get together and talk about him. The assailant had nursed grievances against President Donald Trump and the GOP - and was shot by police and later died.

He also said he reacted the way he was trained to do.

Castile's mother, Valerie, declined comment Wednesday. It's common for civil suits to proceed no matter the outcome of criminal cases, as the burden of proof in civil court is less than in a criminal case. Federal authorities have said they were monitoring the state's investigation, and a federal prosecutor helped with the state's case.

A Minnesota jury is returning for its fourth day of deliberations in the trial of a police officer charged with manslaughter in the death of a black motorist.

Twenty-one of the cases are pending, including the Yanez case and that of a University of Cincinnati officer being retried after a hung jury past year.
