Accused NSA Leaker Reality Winner Will Enter Not Guilty Plea

She is a victor. She was scheduled to appear before a federal judge Thursday for a detention hearing.

Winner, who spent six years in the military and speaks Farsi and Pashtun, was employed at the USA government agency facility since about February 13, during which time she had top secret clearance.

She was arrested Saturday on charges of violating the Espionage Act by "removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet", a criminal complaint stated.

The criminal complaint asserts that as Federal Bureau of Investigation agents searched Winner's home on Saturday, she admitted to printing out a classified report, removing it from the USA government facility in Georgia where she works, and mailing it to an online media outlet.

The document does not suggest the cyber attack changed votes, according to The Intercept report, but "raises the possibility that Russian hacking may have breached at least some elements of the voting system, with some disconcertingly uncertain results".

The family of an intelligence contractor who allegedly leaked a highly classified document about Russian interference in the USA election told NBC News that "she would not jeopardize anybody's safety".

Trump lashes out at 'bad' and 'conflicted' Russia investigators
Citing unnamed "officials", the Washington Post reported Wednesday evening that Mueller's investigation has taken a major turn. The Washington Post previously reported that Trump also asked Rogers and Coats to push back against the FBI's investigation .

"My biggest fear in all of this, is that she's not going to get a fair trial", her mother Billie Winner-Davis said Tuesday in a CNN interview.

"I didn't know what company she worked for", Winner-Davis said.

Winners works as a private contractor for Pluribus International Corp.

Winner's defense attorney, Titus Thomas Nichols, would not confirm whether she was being charged with leaking the NSA report cited by The Intercept. She has been jailed in neighboring Lincoln County since her arrest, according to a booking report released by the sheriff. The FBI says victor has admitted to being the leaker, but her lawyer, Titus Nichols, says she plans to fight the charges. Her family knew nearly nothing about her work life, they said.

When she made the All-District tennis team, her head coach, Ed Gonzales, told the Kingsville Record in late 2009: "She has only been playing tennis since her freshman year and has done a very good job of getting where she is at right now by putting her time in as far as the drills and conditioning she does every day and I am not surprised by her making all-district which is a great showing for her". "There's no reason to hold her".

The details in the case suggest that she is the source for the Intercept's report on Monday about a May 5 NSA intelligence report that describes two cyberattacks carried out by Russian government hackers against a USA voting software supplier before the 2016 election.

The federal government only started investigating victor after a reporter from The Intercept contacted another federal contractor seeking to verify the authenticity of the documents.

Victor grew up in Kingsville, Texas, and enlisted in the Air Force after graduating from high school.

The indictment alleges that victor, a former Air Force linguist, leaked the confidential information in May 2017 while employed at private contractor Pluribus International. During that time, he said, victor provided real-time translation to Americans conducting field missions. "Her words to me were that she was really scared that they would make her disappear", Davis said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents followed victor up her driveway after she had been grocery shopping and took her to a back room of the house and kept her there, according to her mother's retelling of Saturday's arrest. While the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not identify the agency, the NSA in 2012 opened up a center in the Augusta area. Her profile picture is a photo of herself, and she posted a selfie in February.

"She's a patriot. She served her nation with distinguished honor", Gary said, CBS reports.
