London Bridge attack: Counter terrorism officers raid house in Ilford

Seven people died in the assault that occurred Saturday when three masked men drove a van into pedestrians on the bridge before jumping out and stabbing people at random, police said. "They are particularly keen to hear about places they may have frequented and their movements in the days and hours before the attacks".

The third murderer has yet to be named by the Metropolitan Police, who said although Butt was on their watch list, there was no evidence he was planning an attack and therefore his file was not deemed a priority.

How did the attack unfold?

In many cases, said Richardson, the public later learns that the suspects in a terrorist attack were linked to an existing investigation, or that law enforcement had received warnings about the people. His cousin, 18-year-old Bilal Dar, told The Associated Press that Butt's uncle was taken in for questioning. We can not say more about them at this stage.

The assailants ran people over on London Bridge before lunging seemingly at random at the crowds gathered around Borough Market, which is full of restaurants and bars.

The attackers were shot dead by the police at the scene. One of the dead attackers has been pictured wearing an Arsenal shirt.

Rowley said that eight officers fired about 50 bullets at the men - an "unprecedented" amount for British police.

One of the attackers was shown in a photograph lying on the ground outside the Wheatsheaf pub. United Kingdom police later confirmed the reports.

Who was involved in the attacks?

Borough Market, at the south end of the bridge, is a world-famous food hall and a trendy nightlife area always packed with revellers on a Saturday night.

The second terrorist was named as Rachid Redouane, 30, who police said had claimed to be both Moroccan and Libyan.

Prime Minister Theresa May said Britain must do "more, much more" to fight Islamist extremism.

But the premier also faced mounting criticism for her record on security in the six years she served as Britain's home secretary before becoming prime minister last year.

Valeria Collina was quoted by Italian weekly news magazine L'Espresso as saying she last spoke to her son Thursday and now realizes it was a goodbye call.

At least seven people died and nearly 50 were injured when three attackers drove into crowds in central London before going on a stabbing spree.

Twelve people arrested earlier have since been released without charge. The 12 others arrested have been released without charge.

A French national was also among the victims, the country's foreign ministry confirmed Sunday.

What are the political implications?

Campaigning resumed yesterday after being suspended for a day. Latest polling has suggested a strong lead previously enjoyed by May's Conservatives has evaporate.

On May 22, a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a concert in the city of Manchester.

London mayor Sadiq Khan warned extremists they will never win as mourners gathered at the service in Potters Fields Park, near London's City Hall. It was reduced to "severe", which means an attack is highly likely, on May 27.

Meanwhile, large concrete barriers have been installed at Waterloo, Lambeth and Westminster bridges in London.

"Undoubtedly, when people see something which appears from their perverted point of view to be successful, some people will be inspired by that, so that is most certainly a possibility".

Bomber Salman Abedi planned Manchester attack for a year
Around a thousand soldiers were deployed at key locations across the country to free up armed policemen to go on patrol. His older brother, 23-year-old Ismail, was arrested by Manchester police on Tuesday.
